City of London Livery Companies

by Guy Fairbank

Monday 26 September 2022

For centuries, the Livery Companies have been an important part of the City of London. From medieval trade guilds, to providers of welfare, education, military support, alms houses and charities.

Guy will tour parts of the City of London exploring the legacy and present day role of these ancient institutions. We will see several Livery halls from the outside, but won't be visiting the interiors.

The meeting point will be advised later.

Guy Fairbank is a qualified London Blue Badge guide. He is a proud Londoner, mad about history and an aspiring actor, so expect a bit of a performance along the way - but he promises there won't be not too many history dates!

Guy studied Ancient History and Archaeology at Birmingham University before he joined a well-known high street retailer and moved to London.  After many years he decided to take a change in direction, chucked in his job and retrained as a tour guide - and he's never looked back.

Guy is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Vintners, and an official guide in Vinters' Hall and Mercers' Hall.
