Byzantium and Beyond

at the British Museum

From ivories to icons, from Crusaders to Constantinople, from Classicism to the Egyptian Copts, the range of art works and objects in the British Museum's collection shows the huge influence of the material culture of the Byzantine millennium throughout the medieval world.

Helen Dejean gave us a first class talk about St Catherine's Monastery last year.

Helen is an established professional artist, iconographer and independent art history lecturer specialising in Byzantine and Late Medieval Italian art. She holds a Masters degree in each of these subjects and is currently reading for a PhD in Byzantine art history. 

Helen has worked at London’s leading Russian Art Auction House (MacDougall Arts) and Christie's, as well as in museums and further education.

She is the founder and owner of ‘Icon Adventures’ which provides courses in icons panel painting and ‘Elenis Icons’ - through which Helen continues to undertake significant commissions from around the world.
