Matisse - The Final Years
Ian Swankie
Henri Matisse did not enjoy good physical health in his later years, but his creative genius continued apace. He stopped painting at nearly 80 and turned his hands to paper cut-outs. Using scissors and tearing up pieces of coloured paper he worked with his assistants to create hundreds of beautiful collages. We look at the work produced in his final years including the magnificent and moving Chapel of the Rosary near Vence in the south of France.
