Monks, Monasteries and Murders - The Tour!

A walking tour led by Alison Woolard
Monday 11th March 2024
In November 2023, Alison Woollard delivered a very informative and entertaining lecture about the religious institutions in the medieval City of London and she described many of the visible clues of these important buildings. This is a walk around the western part of the City looking for evidence of monks, friars, hospitals and colleges and we'll hear about the contribution they made to society and the way they shape city life today.

Alison Woollard was born on the eastern fringes of London and taught English in Essex schools for many years. She was really tempted to choose History as her subject all those years ago, so she seized the opportunity on retirement to combine her love of history and teaching by becoming a City of London guide in 2015.
She has developed a wide range of walks and talks with a special interest in Roman London, the Great Fire and the religious life of medieval London. She also guides in the Guildhall Art Gallery and around Leadenhall Market as well as leading tours from Dr Johnson’s House in Gough Square about his life in and around Fleet Street.
